Why Tinubu should free Kanu-Prince Nwafor Orizu

Although he observed with happiness that for the first time, the three contenders for presidency were pure civilians, with civilian backgrounds, devoid of involvement of military men like Babangida, Obasanjo and Buhari in charge of affairs, but the principal partner of Friends Chambers, Prince Orji Nwafor – Orizu has explained why President Bola Ahmed Tinubu shouldn’t hesitate to release the leader of proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), Mazi Nnamdi Kanu.

His reason for the call was that the release of Kanu would not only make Igbo people (Ndigbo) have a sense of belonging in the Nigerian project, but would also stop Monday, “Sit at Home” in the South East (SE). Another reason was that it would restore economic activities in the zone and the economy of the zone would start to boost, for the interest of ordinary Nigerian.

Orizu spoke to our correspondent at a telephone interview he granted him recently.

Hear him in details: “It is now, for the first time, Nigeria is becoming a democracy. I don’t care who rules either today by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) declaration, or tomorrow by court judgement, but the fact remains that the three people who are contending are all civilians, with civilian backgrounds.”

He continued: “I am happy that people like Babangida, Obasanjo and Buhari are no more in charge of affairs. We are now moving into, a proper civilian government.That is why I agree with an anlyst who was speaking on a television, that if Tinubu wants to make this country governable, the first thing he shoud do is, to release Nnamdi Kanu, so that Igbo Nd’Igbo wil have a sense of belonging and economically, ‘The Monday Sit at Home,’ wil stop and the economy in that area wil boost and affect ordinary Nigerian.”

On the removal of fuel subsidy, he hailed the idea, by pointing out that Nigerians can’t pretend in doing fuel subsidy with the money to run the state. Advising the government to use the proceeds of the subsidy to develop infrastructures and other social amenities for the masses to benefit from the country’s resources, he however faulted the method of borrowing money to fuel cars in Nigeria.
He further frowned at the idea of giving Nigeria’s money to a few people to be bringing fuel at a cheaper rate in the name of subsidy. This, he faulted in its entirety, even as he said Labour can’t be sentimental about it, with the reason that fuel is being bought and used all over the world.

Condemning in its entirety, the call that those challenging the election in the tribunal or court withdraw, so as to form a national government, Orji Nwafor – Orizu however however pointed out that a promise to form a national government shouldn’t be a license to rig an election. He said that he didn’t see any thing wrong in swearing – in a president, while the case continues in the court, even as he said that it has been happening in thee country.

Based on its past judgements, when asked if the supreme court should be trusted, he said he had trust on the Supreme Court, by explaining that what determines the apex court’s judgement is the decision of the majority of the justices. He therefore said provided that the case is still before a court of competent jurisdiction, Tinubu, according to him is a temporary or interlocutory president. The lawyer stared, that the good thing about the tribunal is that, it has 180 days to finish their cases, against what was being obtainable in the past, when the tribunal used to do case for about three years.

“Tinubu is a tempory or an interlocutory president, until the judgement of the Supreme Court upholds his election. And the good thing about it is that the election tribunal has only 180 days to try a case, against what was obtainable before, when the tribunal used to try a case for more than two years, he stated in details.

When asked, the prince said that he had no advice for Nigerians, pending the judgement of the apex court.
