Why PSA chair faults call for interim government

The chairman/convener, Progressives’ Solidarity for Asiwaju (PSA), Chief Ibrahim Emokpaire, has faulted in its entirety, the call for interim government, by the vice presidential candidate of the Labour party (LP), Baba Datti Ahmed.

This is contained in a recent press release from the Director of Press/Publicity of the organisation, Ariyo Segun.

In an exclusive interview he granted to journalists in London recently, he described such call as an invitation to anarchy, even as he noted that the most awful civilian government is better than the most effective military government.

He however stated that the presidential and governorship elections conducted in Nigeria had been lost and won, just as he hailed the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for having conducted an excellent election, which according to him was deemed to be free and fair by many independent institutions and observers.

Still condemning calls for interim government, saying that it is constitutional, he said losers have another option to re-strategize and vote out the president-elect in 2027.

The PSA chairman therefore said that the process and outcome of February 25, 2023 and March 18, 2023 elections showed the love Nigerians have for Asiwaju Ahmed Tinubu and the ruling All Progressive Congress, (APC) due to the achievements the country enjoyed under its leadership. Describing interim government as undemocratic, he said those who have been pushing for it as committing treason, saying that it is wickedness and antidemocracy.

The Chairman warned that those clamouring for an interim government were evil and power mongers who wanted to steal the people’s mandate, stating that the country will suffer lasting damage if the consequences of such a breach are not dealt with immediately.

Chief Emokpaire also called on the losers in the elections to join hands with the president-elect, who, according to him has for decades worked tirelessly for progress in Lagos and the country at large. He however expressed optimism that the president-elect would address challenges of infrastructural deficit, unemployment, insecurity and attract foreign investments

On the issue of the alleged invitation of IPOB in Lagos state to protect the Igbo traders by one Eze Ndigbo and his arrest over the weekend, he said that it would serve as a lesson to those planning to truncate the smooth transition of power to a democratically elected government, come May 29th 2023, even as he called on law abiding citizens to support the outcome of the just conducted general election in the country, instead of embarking on actions that will set Nigeria aback.
