We’llkeep fate with LG elections in Nasarawa this year —-NASIEC

Nasarawa State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) has give an assurance that the commission prepared and ready to conduct LG election in Nasarawa state this year.
According to the commission, the move is to enable the people of the state performed their civic right in electing new leaders of their choice at the grassroot as the tenure of the present LG Chairmen will end in October, 2024.
Chairman of the Commission, Barrister Ayuba Wandai, disclosed this Tuesday in Lafia when he led other management members of the commission to appear before the State House of Assembly Committee on NASIEC Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development in Lafia.
Wandai said that processes for the conduct of the election was delayed as a result of court order from Federal High Court that halted the conduct of the LG election in the State nothing that he is optimistic the matter will be put to rest very soon and election will hold.
He appreciated the committee and the state government for supporting the commission’s activities to succeed.
” It is visible for us to conduct Local Government elections as the tenure of the current elected local government officials will expire on October 7th, 2024. We had released time table for the conduct of Local Government elections in the State but it was the Federal High Court order instituted by some people that stopped us from going further”, the commission boss stated.
” The judgement will come up on June 6th, 2024 and we hope that the judgement will be in our favour”
He assured of conducting free, fair and credible local government election in the State.
Earlier, the Chairman, House Committee on NASIEC, Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development, Jacob Ajegina Kudu said that they decided to invite the commission in order to assess its 2024 budget performance.
The Committee Chairman urged the commission to conduct transparent and fair Local Government election in the State.
Similarly, the Nasarawa State Bilingual Education Project led by its Programme Manager, Zainab Magaji thanked the state government and the committee for prioritising the activities of the project.
Speaking when they appeared before the committee for their 2024 budget performance, magaji said that the project was to cater for out of school children thereby giving them a sense of belonging in the State.
The programme manager disclosed that the state government is building befitting accommodation in each of the three senatorial zones for the education of the out of school children.
On his part, the Chairman, House Committee on NASIEC, Multilateral Cooperation and Community Development, Jacob Ajegana Kudu appreciated the project for taking the education of out of school children seriously and assured of the committee’s support to enable them succeed.
