We cannot afford another protest in Nigeria now–Senator Almakura

Senator Umaru Tanko Almakura has declared that the fragile situation in Nigeria does not call any form of protest be it peaceful or otherwise.

The former governor of Nasarawa State gave the advice in Lafia Monday while addressing groups and individuals ahead of August first nationwide planned protest against hunger, bad governance, insecurity amongst other issues.

The former Lawmaker explained that support for the present administration’ of president Ahmed Bola Tinubu was the lead way out of the economic, social and insecurity if the nation must over come the challenges and remain in peace.

Senator Al-Makura, who however admitted that Nigerians have the right to protest as enshrined in the nation’s constitution, opined that the proposed protest against bad governance will plunge the nation into not just a the state of anarchy, cost the nation much to rebuild

“I have the need to appreciate the situation in which we are into but what is needed at this moment of the nation threshhood is to give all the necessary support to bring about peace in this country.

We are all elders, we are all parents, we are all leaders in our own rights, we know who to appeal to. Please, let’s give peace a chance.” Almakura begged Nigerians.

While also appealing to both leaders, youths and other players in the Nigeria project, the former Nasarawa state governor said the importance of unity, patience, perseverance, endurance can not be overemphasized assured that both the state and federal governments were working hard to fix the Nigeria’s problems.

“I want to appeal to youths to please adopt constructive engagement with leaders at the national, state, and local government. This is important because engaging our elected and appointed representatives is key to solving the nation”s problems”, the former Lawmaker declared

“The president has just spent one year in office and we are all aware that he inherited a near battered economy and other challenges, so he need more time to fix these challenges steering at our faces” he said.

Senator Al-Makura, used the meeting to call on the people of Nasarawa State and Nigerians, to support Governor Abdullahi Sule, President Tinubu to enable them deliver the needed good governance to the people.
