Rev Fr Ben Makem, a visiting priest who recently conducted mass at St Peter’s Catholic Pastoral Area in Idu, the host community of Idu Industrial Area of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), delivered a heartfelt message, urging traditional rulers to prioritize peace and unity within their domains.

During a thanksgiving event organized by the community leader of the ancient community of Idu last Sunday, the visiting priest shared his advice in an interview following the mass.

He emphasized the importance of worshipping and loving God, living in peace and harmony, and avoiding division.

He emphasized that conflicts lead nowhere and that unity among the people is essential for achieving their purpose as Christians.

While commending the worshippers for their significant attendance during the mass, Rev Fr Ben Makem also called for improvement in the area of punctuality to church services, expressing concern over latecomers.

HRH Ndubuisi Egbo, the Igbo traditional ruler of Tasha 1 in the FCT, echoed the priest’s sentiments, emphasizing that community leaders should act as custodians of peace, love, and promoters of justice. He encouraged them to set an example and maintain justice during times of trouble, fostering love among the people within their domains. He also stressed the importance of Ndigbo showing respect and love for themselves and the indigenes of their host communities.

The celebrant himself, following his move into a new house, emphasized his commitment to embracing and loving his people more. He acknowledged past shortcomings and vowed to improve, ensuring unity and peace within the community.

When asked about his efforts to unite his people and promote peace in Idu, he affirmed his determination and advised his community to remain calm, eschew violence, and embrace God and peace.
