President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has firmly rebutted former Vice President Atiku Abubakar’s recent accusations regarding his handling of Nigeria’s security and economic challenges.

Atiku had raised issue with Tinubu’s private trip to France during the ongoing security crisis, labeling him as an unnecessary “tourist-in-chief.”

In a statement issued on Tuesday night, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, dismissed Atiku’s claims as baseless and reckless.

Onanuga pointed out that Tinubu had openly communicated his trip to France to the Nigerian public and remained actively engaged in addressing the nation’s issues while abroad.

The presidential aide suggested that Atiku’s remarks were influenced by electoral defeat, accusing him of using security challenges for political gain.

Onanuga said Tinubu’s consistent communication with officials and security chiefs, directing efforts to combat criminal activities across the country.

The statement revealed Tinubu’s substantial financial support, including the approval of N50 billion as a Special Fund, to address security challenges in the North East and equip security forces to combat kidnapping in the FCT. Recent successes, such as the arrest of over 139 kidnappers and the rescue of 154 abducted persons, showcased the president’s commitment to restoring peace and security.

Onanuga challenged Atiku to prioritize genuine security concerns over what was deemed as “cheap politics.” It underscored President Tinubu’s unwavering dedication to supporting security agencies in the ongoing battle against criminal elements, emphasizing the president’s commitment to securing the nation.
