Theat to lives: NUJ tackles politicians, Individuals, rejects Fulani Vigilante Group in Nasarawa

Journalists practicing in Nasarawa State said it is alarmed over threat to lives of it’s members by individuals and the politicans admonishing the law enforcement agencies to provide protection against intimidation harrassment of journalist carrying out their legitimate duties

The Union in a Communique issued and signed at the end of its monthly Congress meeting in Lafia by the secretary, Sunday John, the congress also observed with deep worry the activities of fake journalists, impersonators spreading across the state.

The Journalists called on its members to fish out such elements by reporting them to the state council and the Police Command for necessary action.

The communique also stressed the need for journalists in the state to engage in rural reporting, investigative journalism in order to expose the ills of the society.

It condemned, in strong terms, the formation of Nomad Vigilante Group in the State, nothing that the formation of private group was capable of threatening the current peaceful coexistence being enjoyed in the state.

The Journalists ,who explained that there were existing vigilante groups in various communities in the state, advised persons or group interested in the security of the state to join the existing outfits properly registered and recognize by the conventional security agencies in the state.

The congress joined millions of Nigerians in congratulating the governor of the state, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, on the affirmation of his victory at the Supreme court and urged him to be magnanimous in victory.

On energy, the communique appealed to authorities of Abuja Electricity Distribution Company (AEDC) and the government to address the issue of high billings, provide pre-paid meters to customers in Nasarawa state.

It noted that many of AEDC personnel had cashed in on the lack of the prepaid meters “to engage in sharp practices by defrauding unsuspecting customers” in the state.
