The Nigerian Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, says the country will recruit 3,927 new personnel for the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) during the 2024/2025 period.

The Minister stated this during the 61st meeting of the NCS Board in Lagos, aims to address staffing gaps and enhance the operational efficiency of the customs agency.

At the meeting, Edun commended the NCS for generating approximately ₦15 trillion in revenue by September 2024. He attributed this achievement to the economic reforms implemented by President Bola Tinubu’s administration, which have bolstered financial stability and enhanced revenue collection mechanisms.

The revenue generated by the NCS has become a vital source of funding for social and infrastructural development.

As part of the ₦48 trillion “budget of restoration” for 2025, the government is targeting ₦35 trillion in revenue, with the remaining funds to be sourced through loans and grants.
