The Supreme Court, Monday dismissed the appeal lodged by the Allied People’s Movement (APM) challenging the victory of Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara.

The five-member panel, headed by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, rendered the verdict, affirming Fubara’s triumph in the March 18 election.

During the proceedings, the counsel for APM and its candidate, Innocent Kere, chose to withdraw the appeal, leading to its subsequent dismissal by the apex court.

Meanwhile, the appeal filed by the All Progressives Congress (APC) and its candidate, Patrick Tonye-Cole, was reserved for judgment.

Tonye-Cole, in his appeal, contends that Governor Fubara failed to resign as the Accountant General of the state within the constitutionally mandated deadline and the provisions of the Electoral Act.

The Supreme Court, after hearing arguments from the parties involved, decided to reserve judgment on the APC’s appeal.
