Six individuals have been apprehended by Kogi State authorities following an alleged assault on members of the National Assembly, including Senator Jibrin Isah Echocho, during a courtesy visit to Governor Yahaya Bello.

The incident occurred as a delegation of parliamentarians from Kogi State, representing both the Senate and House of Representatives, paid a visit to congratulate the Governor on the successful and peaceful conduct of the November 11 Governorship election.

According to the statement released by the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, the Governor swiftly condemned the attack and demanded the immediate prosecution of those responsible for the harassment.

In response, Governor Bello has enforced a ban on unauthorized access to the Government House, emphasizing the necessity of bringing the culprits to justice.

The visiting NASS Legislators, after expressing their allegiance to the Governor and the incoming administration, were reportedly assaulted upon leaving the Government House premises.

Governor Bello, expressing dismay over the incident, promptly ordered the arrest of the offenders and urged security agencies to conduct a thorough investigation, ensuring the perpetrators face legal consequences.

Governor Bello, in a statement, strongly disapproved of the incident, stating, “I will never condone acts of hooliganism and indiscipline.”

The Governor specifically directed the Chief Security Officer to ensure the arrest and prosecution of all individuals involved in the “stupid act” that targeted Senator Jubrin Echocho.
