Sir Amadu Bello lecture: Buhari urges incoming administration to improve on electoral system, political stability ****calls for Good governance, accountability, justice to make Nigeria stronger, prosperous

Ahead of the may 29th inauguration, President Muhammadu Buhari
has called on the nation’s political leaders and other stakeholders to focus on good governance, accountability, justice and shun corruption to make Nigeria more stronger and prosperous.

This is even as he has admonished the incoming administration to strengthen the electorial system and ensure the stability of the country in the coming years.

president Buhari who stated this while delivering a keynote address at the 9th edition of the Sir Amadu Bello annual memorial lecture in Lafia, Nasarawa State regretted that Nigeria woould have been better if leaders were conscious and had remain committed to the ideals of the nation’s forefathers.

Represented by his Chief of staff, Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Buhari called on the political gladiators to take a cue from the ideology of the former Premier of the Northern Region late Sir Ahmadu Bello whose major preoccupation was inclusive leadership and selfless service to the people irrespective of their diversify.

“If the nation’s leaders focus on good governance, shun cutting corners, stand for justice Nigeria would be much stronger politically, economically and socially”.

He used the occasion to called on leaders at levels to imbibe the virtues of selfless and inclusive governance for the unity and sustenance of democracy in the country.

He urged the incoming government not to relent in exploring ways of improving on the nation’s electoral system for democracy and rule of law to strive.

On their various submissions, Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and the former Governor of Niger State, Dr Muazu Babangida called on leaders especially those from the northern extraction to step up efforts by initiating programmes that would galvanize economic development of the region.

The theme of this year’s lecture was centered on ‘Credible Elections as Panacea for Search for Quality Leadership and Legacy for Good Governance, Sustainable Democratic Culture in Nigeria.

Recalled that Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Lecture is an annual event which commenced nine years ago by Sir Ahmadu Bello Memorial Foundation, a Non Governmental Organization to highlight on the leadership ideals of the late Premier of Northern Region Sir Ahmadu Bello.

Participants who attended the lecture included traditional rulers,serving former governors especially from the nineteen northern states as well as the political, religious and opinion leaders.
