Senators , House of Representatives -elect advocate vibrant 10th National Assembly

A cross section of Senators-elect and Members-elect of House of Representatives, on Monday set various criteria for the Principal Officers of the National Assembly.

Some of them who spoke with newsmen at the commencement of induction of the new law makers said that competence, ranking and zoning should be the criteria in the selection process.

Senator God’swill Akpabio from the south South zone said the retreat is very essential particularly for new senators adding that it will take them through the legislative processes.

On zoning, he said: “In terms of what the ruling party is thinking of, we are only awaiting the decision of the National Working Committee (NWC) of our great party which I believe will come out very soon.

Sen. Osita Izunaso from the South East said that the most natural thing to do was to zone the office of the Senate President to the South-East.

Senator Ned Nwoko from the South South said that the dividing line “is that whether we want an independent national assembly or we want an assembly that is controlled by the Presidency.

Senator Suleiman Sumaila from North West said that politics was a game of interest.

On his part,House of Representatives elect Benjamin Kalu from South East who is the present Spokesperson of the House of Representatives said “In a democratic climes like ours, the ruling party plays a major role in setting up the architecture of government.”

For Senator Sani Musa, from North Central, on the issue of zoning, he said they would cross the river when they arrived there.
