Senate urges Nigerian Ports Authority to appear at NASS for accounting

The Nigerian Senate has on Tuesday urged the Nigerian Post Authority to appear before it’s committee on Account for proper investigation on Auditor General for the Federation’s annual report.

The Senate committee chairman on Finance, Senator Wadada, made this statement while addressing the Press after the Committee meeting in Abuja.

Wadada while speaking, said at this point, the Committee is today compelled to say what they are going to say on Nigerian Ports Authority.

He said that there are issues around Lagos Channel Management, Boni Channel management and of course Calabar channel management and on these issues the committee had respectfully written the Nigerian Post Authority management, Some of the communications were responded to and some as still yet to be responded to today.

He said Some of these queries have got to do with that the inductiveness of the terminal operators, which is almost a billion dollars, $852,000,000 ninety 3730 cents seven, I mean $0.77 this is and of course 1,878,560,000 you know 500 and 6500 and 9057 cable.

He added that there are also issue of outstanding estate, rent, shipping, due service boards and water view over 60 almost $68 million, the status of loan outstanding capitals or debts are all part of the issues to be answered by Nigerian Post Authority.

Wadada explained that that the Committee stands based on the understanding of the responsibilities that are expected to be discharged by this Committee.

He said that the Committee relies partly not wholly on the Auditor General for the Federation annual report to discharge its responsibilities.
