Darlington Nwauju, spokesperson for Rivers APC, in a press release issued today, expressed strong condemnation of the recent bombing incident in Port Harcourt. The incident, which occurred on June 25, 2024, near the Hotel Presidential on Aba Road, involved the detonation of an improvised explosive device (IED) allegedly by a protester.

Nwauju characterized the protest leading to the bombing as orchestrated and stage-managed, purportedly by a political group aligned with the FCT Minister.

He asserted that these actions are aimed at justifying calls for a State of Emergency in Rivers State, despite the absence of such a crisis.

The statement drew parallels to a previous bombing incident in January 2023 at an APC campaign venue in Rumuwoji town hall, which resulted in injuries to several party members.

According to Nwauju, both incidents bear similarities and point towards the same group, which he claims has evaded accountability for previous violent acts.

Calling on the Rivers State Police Command to investigate thoroughly, Nwauju urged authorities to identify and apprehend the perpetrators and their sponsors. He emphasized the need for transparency in the investigation process, citing previous instances where investigations into political violence allegedly faced obfuscation.

The spokesperson also criticized the closure of local government council Secretariats in the state, arguing that denying civil servants access to their workspaces contradicts the rule of law. He questioned the logic behind violent protests purportedly in support of police actions, describing it as incongruous and demanding clarity from the police regarding their response and handling of the situation.
