Retirement Age: Nasarawa state Assembly raises teachers bar, others to 65, as bill passes second reading

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Monday said it was determined to raise the retirement age of its teaching and non academic staff in its institutions to 65 years.
This is just as the bill for the establishment of the state college of Education and other related matters therein passed second reading at the floor of the house.
The lawmakers at it’s plenary said, the bill when passed will extend the 60 years retirement age of both academic and non academic staff of College of Education (COE) Akwanga to 65 years.
Speaker of the House, Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi who announced the passage of the bill into second reading in Lafia, explained that the bill when approved would enable all staff of College of Education Akwanga attained 65 years of retirement.
” A Bill For a Law For the Establishment of the Nasarawa State College of Education, Akwanga and Other Matters Connected Thereto scaled second reading.
” I will commit the bill to the House Committee on Education to work on and report to the House in a week time,” he said.
The bill was then committed to the House Committee on Education to work on and report back to the House in a week time.
Also contributing, the Minority Leader, Daniel Ogazi, the Deputy Majority Leader, Mohammed Okpoku said they were all committed to the passage of the bill in view of its substances.
According to the lawmakers, the 65 years retirement age would enable the staff contribute more to the growth of the education in the state.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Umar Tanko Tunga, had given an insight into the substance of the Bill and moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading which was seconded by the minority leader of the house, Abel Bala
The House unanimously adopted the bill and passed it into second reading after the Bill had gone through first reading earlier
