President Tinubu presides over FEC, Swears-In two NPC Commissioners

President Bola Tinubu officiated the swearing-in of two new commissioners for the National Population Commission (NPC). Mr. Fasuwa Johnson and Dr. Amid Tadese Raheem, representing Ogun and Osun States respectfully in a formal ceremony held at the Council Chamber of the Aso Rock Villa, Monday in Abuja.

The ceremony was a follow up to President Tinubu’s formal request to the Senate on February 13 for the confirmation of Dr.

Raheem as an NPC commissioner, a confirmation which was subsequently granted on March 6 for Mr.
Johnson as well.

President Tinubu’s proactive approach towards enhancing the NPC’s functionality was evident back on November 8, 2023, when he appointed a total of 20 federal commissioners, with nine among them being reappointed for a second term.

Subsequently, on March 14, he presided over the swearing-in ceremony of 17 commissioners.

Mr. Fasuwa Johnson, born in 1973 in Ododeyo, Ijebu North East area of Ogun State, brings a rich array of experiences to his new role. He holds a Master of Science in Geography from the University of Ibadan (2004) and a Master in Business Administration from Ladoke Akintola University, Ogbomoso, Oyo State (2009). Prior to his appointment, Johnson served as a member of the Ogun State House of Assembly from 2019 to June 2023, where he notably chaired the House Committee on Works and Infrastructure.

Dr. Amid Tadese Raheem, born on December 12, 1964, in Iwo, Osun State, boasts an extensive academic and public service record. He obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, and went on to earn both Master’s and Doctorate degrees in Public Administration from the same institution.

Dr. Raheem previously served as the Commissioner for Water Resources & Energy in Osun State and held the position of Chief Whip in the Osun State House of Assembly in 1992. Until his nomination, he served as the Head of the Department of Public Administration at Fountain University, Osogbo, Osun State.
