Meanwhile, President Bola Tinubu, who is presently in the U.S. for the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA), urged Nigerians living abroad to adopt a new mentality for success in all aspects of life.

Speaking at a Presidential Town Hall Meeting with Nigerians in the Diaspora in New York, President Tinubu emphasized the abundant business opportunities in Nigeria and encouraged diaspora Nigerians to consider returning home.

He praised Nigerians in the U.S. for their good manners and behavior and expressed his commitment to creating an environment conducive to business opportunities in Nigeria.

President Tinubu reassured prospective investors of his administration’s determination to implement fiscal and regulatory measures to facilitate ease of doing business in Nigeria.

In response to President Tinubu’s remarks, U.S. Deputy Treasury Secretary, Wally Adeyemo, acknowledged the positive reforms implemented in Lagos during President Tinubu’s tenure as governor and expressed optimism about Nigeria becoming a new frontier for investment. American business leaders attending the event also expressed confidence in Nigeria’s economic potential and its growing attractiveness to foreign investors.

Similarly, President Tinubu also had a meeting with United Nations Secretary-General, António Guterres, during his visit to the UN Headquarters in New York City. During this meeting, President Tinubu called for the United Nations to transform from being a global talkshop into becoming an action coordination center.

He emphasized the need for more efficient use of resources, particularly in addressing poverty and terrorism in Africa. President Tinubu pledged to work towards poverty alleviation and expressed his commitment to taking decisive actions, even if they temporarily make him unpopular.

He also called for a change in the approach to human rights advocacy, urging that it should not impede the fight against those who exploit African resources and contribute to instability on the continent. In response, the UN Secretary-General expressed the UN’s commitment to reforming its institution to better represent the developing world and assured support for ECOWAS in light of recent military coups in the West African sub-region.

These developments come at a critical juncture as Nigeria and the United States work to strengthen economic ties, address security challenges, and promote international cooperation during the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
