President Bola Tinubu Nominates New CBN Governor and Deputy Governors, Aims for Economic Reforms

Bola Tinubu has officially nominated Dr. Olayemi Michael Cardoso as the new Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN). Dr. Cardoso is poised to serve a five-year term, pending approval by the Nigerian Senate.

This momentous announcement was made via a press release signed by Chief Ajuri Ngelale, Special Adviser to the President for Media & Publicity in Abuja.

The nomination adheres to the guidelines outlined in Section 8 (1) of the Central Bank of Nigeria Act, 2007, granting the President of Nigeria the authority to appoint the CBN Governor and Deputy Governors, subject to Senate confirmation.

In addition to the nomination of Dr.

Cardoso as Governor, President Tinubu has also put forth four candidates for the position of Deputy Governors at the CBN, each proposed for a five-year term, pending Senate confirmation. The nominated Deputy Governors are as follows:

1. Mrs. Emem Nnana Usoro
2. Mr. Muhammad Sani Abdullahi Dattijo
3. Mr. Philip Ikeazor
4. Dr. Bala M. Bello

These nominations reflect President Tinubu’s commitment to his Renewed Hope agenda. He anticipates that the appointed nominees will play a pivotal role in implementing essential reforms within the Central Bank of Nigeria.
