A pregnant woman, identified as Chinwendu Igwe, was forced to give birth in the captivity of kidnappers while en route to the hospital for delivery. The incident transpired last Monday in the forested area of Egede, Udi local government area of Enugu State.

Accompanied by her two young children, aged four and two, Igwe fell victim to the heinous act of kidnapping.

Her husband, Mr. Ekene Igwe, disclosed to reporters that he was compelled to pay a ransom of N1.6 million to secure the release of his wife and newborn child from the forest where the kidnappers had held them.

Fortunately, a benevolent motorcyclist stumbled upon Igwe’s abandoned children on the roadside and ensured their safety.

Ekene Igwe expressed his gratitude to God for the safe return of his wife, emphasizing the anguish and fear the family endured throughout the ordeal.

Adding to the narrative, Chief Emma Ugwu, Enyiduru, the landlord of the Igwe family, residing at No. 5 Umugwu, Awkunanaw, Enugu South, shared his relief that the lives of his tenants were spared. He particularly praised the intervention of Governor Mbah, who is overseeing the care of the rescued woman and her newborn at Parklane Hospital in Enugu.

Ugwu, who also serves as the chairman of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu South, expressed his shock at the unprecedented nature of the incident, noting that such trauma had never touched someone so close to him before.
