Power Supply : Nasarawa Assembly moves to generate, distribute, supply power as bill passes second reading

A Bill for a Law to Repeal the Nasarawa State Electricity Power Agency Law, 2018 and Provide for Electricity Generation, Transmission, and distribution today scale second reading in the house.

The bill when passed into law would repeal the System of Operation, Distribution and Supply of power supply in the State and for Other Matters Connected Therewith.

The move is to help tackle and address the inadequate power generation, transmission distribution and supply of electricity to various communities in the state as well as address issues of indiscriminate billing being experienced by the residents.

Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau who announced the passage of the bill into second reading during the House proceedings in Lafia, said that the bill if finally passed would boost power supply thereby ending poor electricity supply in the State.

The Speaker also said the bill if passed would also generate jobs and increase the revenue base of the State. and committed the bill to the House Committee on Works and Transport to work on it and report back to the House on 2nd September, 2024.

In their contributions, Hon. Solomon Akwashiki, Hon. Musa Abubakar Ibrahim, Barr. Esson Mairiga, Hon. Larry Ven Bawa, Hon. Mohammed Garba Isimbabi and Hon. Muhammad Adamu Oyanki, the Deputy Speaker of the House supported the bill to scale second reading.

They said that the bill would provide lasting solution to the issue of poor power supply, indiscriminate billing, in the State.

Earlier, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to pass second reading. and was seconded by Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader

In a related development, the House, has passed into law, A Bill for a Law to Make Provisions for Right of Way in Nasarawa State and for Other Matters Connected Thereto.

Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into third reading during the House proceedings monday in Lafia.

The Speaker whole stating that the bill, will regulate mounting of masks and laying of optic fibres(cables) in the State, directed the Clerk of the House to produce a clean copy of the bill for Gov. Sule’s assent.

Earlier, Hon. Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House moved a motion for the bill to pass third reading.

Hon. Luka Iliya Zhekaba, the Minority Leader seconded the motion.

The House unanimously passed the bill into third reading.

In another development, the House, has passed into first reading, A Bill for a Law to Prohibit Forceful Entry and Illegal Occupation of Landed Properties, Violent and Fraudulent Conducts in Relation to Landed Properties in Nasarawa State and Other Matters Connected Thereto sponsored by Hon Ibrahim Aliyu Nana (APC Keffi West)

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau announced the passage of the bill into first reading during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

Hon. Ibrahim Aliyu Nana, the Sponsor of the bill moved a motion for the bill to scale first reading which was seconded by Hon. Abel Yakubu Bala, the Deputy Majority Leader of the House.

Also, the House passed into first reading A Bill for a Law to Establish Nasarawa State Inland Waterways Regulation Agency to Regulate the Carriage of Persons and Goods Across all Watters and Rivers within Nasarawa State and other Matters Connected Thereto, sponsored by Hon. Larry Ven-Bawa (APC Akwanga North) the Chief Whip of the House.

Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau, the Speaker of the House announced the passage of the bill into first reading during the House proceedings today in Lafia.
