Police Inspectors Dismissed and Arrested Over Alleged Armed Robbery, Corruption

Two police inspectors Sunday Adetoye and Ogunleye Stephen has been dismissed and subsequently arrested following their alleged involvement in armed robbery, corruption, and illegal duty.

Their arrest was ordered by the Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Ari Muhammed of Zone .

The dismissed inspectors, formerly stationed at the Zonal Command Headquarters in Onikan, Lagos, are currently standing trial for an incident in Obada-Oko, Ogun State.

On Nov. 23, 2023, at 10:00 p.m, accompanied by two vigilante group members and a driver, they purportedly raided the residence of Taiwo Monsuru and Akintola Sunday.

Armed with SMG rifles and live ammunition, the group allegedly seized five iPhones, a Samsung smartphone, a Tecno smartphone, and two laptops.

The suspects were apprehended due to prompt information from residents to officers at the Ifo Division, leading to the identification and subsequent arrest of the vehicle’s occupants.

ASP Ajayi Victor, believed to have led the operation, remains at large. However, the AIG directed the dismissed officers and involved civilians to face court charges.

The police chief strongly warned against unprofessional conduct and corrupt practices within the force, emphasizing a firm stance against such behaviors under the leadership of Inspector General of Police Kayode Egbetokun.

He encouraged the public to report any misconduct, assuring prompt and confidential action.
