The 2023 presidential candidate of the Labour Party (LP), Peter Obi, has paid a courtesy visit to the Al-Kadriyar family to offer his condolences following the devastating loss of their daughter, Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar; the 400-level Biological Science student of the Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, abducted and subsequently killed by kidnappers.

During his visit on Tuesday, Peter Obi expressed deep sympathy for the family, acknowledging the profound pain that comes with losing a child.

He took the opportunity to call on the government to take swift and decisive action in curbing the alarming rate of criminality in Nigeria.

The tragic event took place at Sagwari Estate Layout, where the bandits abducted 19 individuals and demanded an astronomical ransom of N700 million for the release of nine victims.

Among those held captive was Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar and her six siblings, along with their father, Alhaji Mansoor Al-Kadriyar.

Recall that the incident occurred on January 2, resulting in the untimely deaths of four hostages, including Nabeeha.

The Al-Kadriyar family, residing at Zuma 1 on the outskirts of Bwari town in Abuja, was thrust into a nightmare that has sparked renewed calls for urgent and effective measures to address the pervasive security challenges facing the nation.

Peter Obi’s visit underscores the need for a concerted effort between security agencies and the government to ensure the safety of citizens and prevent further tragedies like the one that befell Nabeeha Al-Kadriyar.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the pressing need to fortify Nigeria’s security infrastructure to protect vulnerable communities from the scourge of kidnapping and violence.
