PEACE COMMITTEE WANTS INEC TO INVESTIGATE PRESIDENTIAL RESULTS

The National Peace Committee wants the Indepedent National Electoral Commission to investigate the worries of Nigerians about the ongoing presidential election result.

The National Peace Committee is headed by former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar (rtd.

), and Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Matthew Hassan Kukah.

Abdulsalami made the comment in a statement titled :“A call for calm: Please give peace and the process chance”, in Abuja.

He urged the INEC to investigate all concernd about the IReV and ensure that results that inspire confidence of Nigeria are delivered.

Abdusalami said that the Organisation noted the dissatisfaction of voters who dared inclement weather conditions to vote stressing that they deserve a reward by the process that ensures that their votes count.

The former Head of State called on security agencies to collaborate with INEC to urgently investigate the weighty allegations surrounding the election.

“We appeal to INEC to take all the time it requires to ensure that it delivers results that inspire the confidence of our people and meet time tested international standards.

“We commend Nigerians for turning out in mass to exercise their civic duty by voting in the February 25 elections. We took note of their patience, dignity and enthusiasm which Nigerians lined up to vote despite observable challenges in the polling units”, he said.
