Oversight Function : NSHA vows to deal with erring MDAs, frowns at non appearance of Ministry of Environment.

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, says it would not hesitate to invoke all the relevant sections of the constitution to deal with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of government undermining its powers and functions in overnighting their activities.

Chairman, House Committee on Housing and Environment, Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu stated this when the management of Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport appeared before the committee today in Lafia.

Hon. Omadefu said that the House has decided to invite the ministry in order to assess their 2024 budget performance.

” Mr Speaker, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau has mandated us to embark on oversight functions to MDAs to assess the level of their budget performance for this year.

“As the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empowers lawmakers to assess the budget performance of MDAs which they have appropriated for them” he said.

Hon. Omadefu disclosed that the committee would embark on, on-the-spot assessment visit to all project sites across the State.

“All contractors handling various projects must be made available for questioning and verifications” he said.

He also called for equitable distribution of houses built for civil servants in the State.

The committee asses the 2024 budget of Ministry of Works, Housing and Transport and lamented on non appearance of the State Ministry For Environment without any reason saying that the House will not condole indiscipline from any government outfit.

“We will not take such disrespect from any body, we will take appreciate action” He lamented.

Earlier, the Commissioner for Works, Hon. Mu’azu Adamu Gosho, while presenting the ministry’s score cards said that the ongoing construction of Lafia Modern Secretariat Complex is one of the legacies projects of Gov. Sule.

He also mentioned the ongoing remodelling and upgrading of First lady office and Deputy Governor’s office among others.

The Commissioner appreciated the committee for the support it has been getting from them and called for its sustenance.

Addressing Assembly press crew Hon. Mohammed Adamu Omadefu says the committee would invoke all the sections of the Constitution to compel the Ministry of Environment to appear before the committee on its 2024 budget performance.

Hon Omadefu said that the ministry failed to appear before the committee on their 2024 budget performance today without any official information or reasons to that effect.
