NUJ FCT mourns Loss of Prophetess Ogonnaya Umeham
The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council is mourning the loss of one of its prominent members, Prophetess Ogonnaya Regina Umeham, who died on Friday after a prolonged illness.
Prophetess Umeham was a distinguished journalist, a former Secretary of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) FCT Chapter, and an ex-staff member of Daily Times Newspapers.
This tragic news comes as the NUJ is still mourning the recent passing of another member, Rafat Idris, amplifying the sorrow within the council.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Comrade Jide Oyekunle, Secretary of the NUJ FCT Council, describes Prophetess Umeham as a vibrant journalist whose dedication to the profession was exemplary.
“The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council joins the family, friends, colleagues, and associates of Prophetess Ogonnaya Umeham in mourning the sudden passing of this vibrant journalist, whose health sadly deteriorated in recent months.
“This loss is particularly painful and devastating for us, coming just hours after the passing of another colleague, Rafat Idris.
“Prophetess Umeham, a former NAWOJ Secretary, worked with several reputable media organisations, including Daily Times Newspapers. Until her passing, she was the news editor of Weekenders Magazine in Abuja.
“She also served as the Secretary of the Credentials Committee for the Delegates Conference of NAWOJ held in Kano, where Comrade Gbenga Onayiga was the Chairman.”
The NUJ extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, and colleagues of Prophetess Umeham and prays for comfort during this challenging time.
Details of her burial arrangements will be announced by her family in due course.
