NSC Chairman Unveils Plan to Reposition Nigerian Sports for Economic Growth…Agara attends session”

The National Sports Commission (NSC) has announced its plan to reposition the Nigerian sports sector to contribute to the national economy through revenue generation and job creation.

NSC Chairman, Alh. Shehu Dikko emphasized this during a strategic meeting with National Presidents and Secretaries of Sports Federation at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium Abuja Tuesday.

This mandate was given by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, according to NSC Chairman, Alh. Shehu Dikko.

“We must see sports as a means of contributing to the economy of the nation, not just for participation in tournaments and winning medals,”

The NSC Chairman lauded President Tinubu for restructuring the commission, from a ministry to a National Sports Commission, with the mandate to get the sports sector working for economic prosperity.

To achieve this target, Alh. Dikko stressed the need to reset thinking towards development, seeing sports as national assets, not just for recreation.

He also emphasized the importance of proper legislation, sustainable funding of grassroots sports, and infrastructural development.

“We want to encourage early development of talents for podium finish at competitions, get familiar with anti-doping laws, and shun media wars,” Alh. Dikko added.

The meeting received inputs from the Director General, National Sports Commission, Bukola Olapode, and the National President of Karate Federation of Nigeria, Dr. Silas Ali Agara who is also the DG National Directorate ofEmployment NDE, among others.

They expressed optimism about the development of the Nigerian sports sector in line with President Tinubu’s renewed hope agenda.
