The Nigeria Medical Association, NMA, Benue State branch has disclosed that it called off the indefinite strike action earlier declared last week following the release of its member Dr Asema Msuega who was kidnapped in line of duty.

State Chairman of NMA Dr Ushakuma Anenga who announced the suspension of the indefinite strike in a statement made available to journalists at the weekend, directed doctors working in public hospitals to resume work immediately.

He equally directed doctors working in Ukum Local Government Area the location where Dr Anenga was kidnapped to leave their working places till further notice.

Dr Anenga in the statement expressed appreciation to governor Hyacinth Alia, the police, other security agencies, national body of NMA and Benue people for their efforts which led to the release of the victim who suffered in captivity for over one month.
Recall, that members of the Nigeria Medical Association, NMA Benue State branch had last week staged a protest calling on relevant stakeholders to ensure the safe release of the doctor and threatened to go on an indefinite strike which commenced last Friday before the doctor was subsequently released.
