NIPSS DG Urges National Focus for Nigeria’s Growth: National Assembly Promises Staff Welfare and Capacity Building

The Director General of the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Prof Ayo Omotayo, underscores the critical importance of establishing a national focus for Nigeria’s growth and development.

Emphasizing the need for personal responsibility, he calls on lawmakers and staff to align their efforts with the nation’s progress.

Speaking at a retreat organized by the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC) for both the National Assembly and the State House of Assembly Service Commission, Omotayo highlights the role of every individual in achieving this national focus.

“If we are going to have a better society, every individual in Nigeria must carry a personal responsibility and pursue a national focus,” he states.

He urges citizens to contemplate the kind of Nigeria they wish to build, emphasizing that this responsibility extends beyond the government to every citizen.

Omotayo acknowledges that the journey toward a better society in Nigeria may be lengthy, but he asserts that personal responsibility and a national focus are essential to reversing the country’s fortunes.

Senate President Godswill Akpabio, in his address, assures that the 10th Assembly will prioritize staff welfare and support their training, retraining, and capacity building. He emphasizes the Assembly’s commitment to empowering the people, not only through legislation but also through training and development.

The Executive Chairman of the National Assembly Service Commission (NASC), Engr Ahmed Kadi Amshi, expresses concerns regarding the State Assembly Service Commissions and their operations.

The conference, organized in collaboration with the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS) Consultancy Services, aims to promote mutual understanding and cooperation among various state commissions.

The Clerk of the National Assembly, Sani Magaji Tambawal, underlines the vital role of a robust bureaucracy in the efficient functioning of legislative bodies.

He also highlights the need for excellent parliamentary service to support a healthy democracy and mentions the ongoing shift towards e-parliament as part of preparing for the future.
