Nigerian-Born Professor Takes Helm as 7th President of Wolfson College, University of Cambridge

The prestigious University of Cambridge, in the United Kingdom, has appointed Professor Ijeoma Uchegbu, a luminary in Pharmaceutical Nanoscience, as the incoming President of Wolfson College, marking a significant milestone for the institution’s leadership.
Abdur-Rahman Balogun, the spokesperson for the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM), officially announced this esteemed appointment, highlighting Professor Uchegbu’s exceptional scholarly prowess and achievements.
Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Chairman of NiDCOM, expressed elation at the news, lauding Professor Uchegbu’s selection as a testament to her outstanding contributions and expertise in the realm of research and knowledge.
“Her appointment further solidifies the recognition for hard work and the wealth of integrity and excellence that Nigerians abroad possess,” Dabiri-Erewa remarked.
Scheduled to assume office on October 1, 2024, succeeding the incumbent President, Professor Jane Clarke, Professor Uchegbu is celebrated for her groundbreaking work in nanoparticle drug delivery, an area where her contributions have been groundbreaking.
Prof. Uchegbu from South East Nigeria, began her academic journey by completing her pharmacy studies at the University of Benin in 1981.
She furthered her education with a master’s degree at the University of Lagos before pursuing postgraduate studies at the University of London, where she earned her PhD in 1997 under the guidance of Alexander (Sandy) Florence, the Dean of the School of Pharmacy.
Her career include a tenure as a lecturer at the University of Strathclyde from 2002 to 2004, and she presently serves as a lecturer at University College London, solidifying her reputation as a pioneering figure in pharmaceutical sciences.
