Nigeria needs N21 trillion to address Housing Deficit- Shettima

Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima, emphasized the critical need for N21 trillion to address the country’s housing deficit effectively.

He made this announcement during the groundbreaking ceremony for a 500-unit housing estate in Sokoto, led by the State government.

Shettima commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for his dedicated efforts to tackle the housing shortage in the region, acknowledging that Nigeria faced a substantial housing challenge with a deficit of 28 million houses.

He praised Governor Aliyu’s initiative and encouraged other State governments to follow suit.

Governor Aliyu provided further details, stating that the housing estate’s beneficiaries would primarily be civil servants, and the units would eventually be sold to them on an owner-occupier basis upon completion.

He also revealed that this project, originally initiated by former Governor Aliyu Wamakko, had been left abandoned by the previous administration but was now being revived at a cost of N7.3 billion.

The event, held to mark the first 100 days of the administration, drew prominent figures such as Sen. Aliyu Wamakko, Sen. Abubakar Kyari, Alhaji Bello Goronyo, Mukhtari Shagari, Chiso Abdullahi-Dattijo, and several others.
