Nigeria Government Recalls all career and non- career Diplomats

In a significant diplomatic move, the Federal Government has issued a recall for all its ambassadors, with the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, offering clarification on the matter.

Although media reports initially focused on the recall of Nigeria’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Ambassador Sarafa Tunji Isola, the minister emphasized that this decision was not a targeted action but applied to both career and non-career ambassadors.

Ambassador Tuggar’s statement was conveyed through his Special Adviser on Media, Al-Kashim Abdul-Kadir, who stated, “In response to inquiries regarding the recall of the Nigerian ambassador to the UK, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, has reaffirmed that all ambassadors, both career and non-career, have been recalled at the directive of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

”

Ambassadors, as representatives of the country, serve at the discretion of the president, who has the authority to appoint or recall them from any foreign posting.

The recalled ambassadors have been instructed to begin the process of concluding their duties in their respective host countries, bid formal farewells to their host governments within 60 days, and return to Nigeria no later than October 31, 2023.

Expressing gratitude for their dedicated service in representing the nation abroad, Minister Tuggar eagerly anticipates welcoming them back to Abuja upon their return.
