Nigeria Commends Ghana for Rebuilding Demolished High Commission Property

The Federal Government of Nigeria has expressed appreciation to the Republic of Ghana for formally rebuilding and handing over a property belonging to the Nigerian High Commission in Accra.

The development marks the culmination of a diplomatic resolution following the controversial demolition of the building by Ghanaian authorities.

The reconstructed property, a block of four-bedroom flats, was officially handed over today by Ghana’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration, Mrs.

Shirley Ayorkor Botchway. This gesture underscores Ghana’s commitment to fostering a stronger bilateral relationship with Nigeria.

In a release signed by Mr.

Kimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, Acting Spokesperson, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, in Abuja the Ministry of praised Ghana’s efforts, stating that, “This reconstructed building embodies the spirit of cooperation and mutual respect that defines the relationship between the Republic of Nigeria and Ghana.”

The handover was described as a “commendable development” and a testament to the enduring spirit of cooperation and mutual respect between the two West African nations.

Ambassador Chimezie Ogu, Director of the Foreign Service Academy in Lagos, received the keys to the property on behalf of Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Recalled that, the demolition of the building by Ghanaian authorities.in 2020 was strongly condemned by the Nigerian Government, this followed series of high-level engagements after which the Government of Ghana promised to reconstruct the block of four-bedroom flats.
