New minimum wage: NSHA moves to end NLC/Govt feud, appeals to Labour to end strike

Nasarawa State House of Assembly, says it has appreciated the contributions of the workers in the state and appealed to the State Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) to suspend ongoing strike for further fruitful negotiations.

This, the House said it appreciate also the facts that the State Government is ready to pay hence the need for more understanding from the two parties for amicable resolutions to bring the matter to an end once and for all.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau made the appeal during the House proceedings Wednesday in Lafia.

Speaker Jatau appreciated the NLC for their positive contributions to the development of the state, assuring that Governor Abdullahi Sule’s administration is willing to pay the new minimum wage to workers in the state.

” I want to appeal to NLC to suspend the ongoing strike as negotiations between them and government is ongoing. We have the hope and believe that both the State Government and Labour will come to terms for the overall development of the state,” the stated

He said the House is fully concern about the strike and was not happy with the development noting that the House will ensure that it engage the two sides for fruitful resolution for peace, unity and process of the State.

In another development, the House of Assembly, has passed the 2025 budget of N382, 567, 843,592.03 billion into second reading as presented by Governor .Abdullahi Sule.

The Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau announced the passage of the budget into second reading tagged “Budget of Economic Growth and Stability” during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The Speaker said that the bill if finally passed into law would enable the state government execute people’s oriented projects across the state.

He, then committed the bill to the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation to work on it and report back to the House on 16th December, 2024.

Also Speakings, Hon Suleiman Yakubu Azara, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba the Minority Leader and Hon. Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki as well as Barr. Esson Mairiga said that the passage of the bill would bring speedy development to the state.

They said that the budget if finally passed would improve on the standard of living of the people of the state.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Hon Suleiman Yakubu Azara moved a motion for the bill to scale second reading, while the Minority Leader of the House, Hon Luka Iliya Zhekaba seconded the motion.

The House unanimously passed the 2025 Appropriation Bill into second reading

It would be reported that on 29th December , 2024, Gov. Sule has presented N382, 567, 843,592.03 billion to the State Assembly for approval.

Sule said that the total budget for 2025 was structured into N159.97bn (41.82%) for recurrent expenditure and N222.60bn (58.18%) for capital expenditure.

“The budget allocation based on main sectors is as follows: Administrative sector: N80.14 billion, Economic Sector: N139.84 billion, Law and Justice Sector: N10.61 billion, Social Sector: N151.97 billion among others.
