The nominees for the Board and Management of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) underwent a rigorous screening by the House of Representatives on Thursday, with Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, Chair of the committee overseeing the process, urging the nominees to demonstrate their suitability for these crucial roles.

Ibori-Suenu emphasized the need for visionary and integrity-driven leaders within the NDDC, calling on the nominees to live up to the confidence vested in them by President Bola Tinubu.

She stressed the significance of this leadership in delivering the commission’s mandate and making a tangible impact on the lives of Niger Delta’s people and communities.

During the proceedings, Chiedu Ebie, the NDDC Chairman designate, and Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, the Managing Director/CEO designate, provided insights into their professional backgrounds and their visions for the commission.

Ebie acknowledged the weight of responsibility placed on their shoulders by the President and vowed to execute their duties with unwavering commitment. He also promised a cooperative relationship with fellow members and a timely launch of projects.

Dr. Ogbuku expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for appointing him to serve Nigeria through the Niger Delta. He assured that his team was fully prepared to serve the people of the region and deliver on the commission’s objectives.

Deputy Minority Leader Rep. Ali Isa moved a motion during the session, advocating for the nominees to be allowed to proceed without extensive questioning. This motion was seconded by Deputy House Leader Rep. Abdullahi Halims and was unanimously approved by the committee.

The ad hoc committee’s decision to confirm all the nominees sets the stage for the National Assembly to promptly convey its resolution to the President. Among those who faced scrutiny were Chiedu Ebie, Chairman (Delta); Dr. Samuel Ogbuku, Managing Director/CEO (Bayelsa); and various Executive Directors representing different states.

Rep. Julius Inhovbere, the leader of the House, charged the nominees with the critical task of charting a new course for this vital interventionist agency. He stressed the importance of fairness, justice, and a deep respect for the constitution in discharging their responsibilities, with the expectation that Nigerians would take pride in their achievements.
