NCWS canvasses support for a referendum for Biafran nation in Nigeria, to avoid break down of law and order
Press Statement
The National Congress for Wo-men’s Societies (NCWS) Nigeria has called on stakeholders in the Nigeria state to immediately call for a referendum for Biafrans in Nigeria to avoid further escalation of violence, killings, and breakdown of law and order.
The leader of NCWS, Dr. Ngozi Orabueze in a statement made available to journalists in Abuja also raised issues on the hurdles facing elected officials under the Nigeria State in Southeast, the Biafra Territory based on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Results in the recently Concluded Elections.
According to her,”The recently concluded Presidential/National Assembly and Governorship/ House Assembly elections in Nigeria based on the INEC report had portrayed the difficulty for any elected individual under the Nigerian state to succeed in leadership in the Southeast Biafra territory.
Orabueze who has been a leading voice for justice self-determination, equity, good governance, fairness, and peace in the Nigeria leadership question based her assertion on the numbers released by INEC in the recently concluded elections in Nigeria.
The report she observed called for an urgent review of the Nigeria state and the immediate need for a referendum in Southeast Nigeria Biafra Territory.
She went further to list the parameters for good governance as fair conduct of elections, responsiveness, openness, transparency, rule of law, and ethical conduct.
She alleged that such values were mostly lacking in the recently concluded election in Nigeria based on reports from several election monitoring committees.
Dr. Orabueze indicated that the statistics of the election results as posted in the INEC website shows that the INEC numbers as enumerated below will make it practically impossible for any elected official under the Nigerian state to function in Biafran territory.
Below are the numbers of Southeastern Nigeria Biafrans that registered/collected PVCs (voters’ card) versus the actual number that voted during the recently concluded Governorship/House of Representatives election:
