The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) has chosen Kano, an ancient city in the northern region, as the venue for its annual conference for the first time in its history.

NBA President, Yakubu Maikyau (SAN), revealed this during a press briefing at the NBA Kano branch’s 2024 Law Week event held yesterday in Kano.

Accompanied by notable legal figures including Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) Bola Alabi and Aminu Gadanya, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), Maikyau emphasized the historical significance of the decision.

Maikyau stated, “This will be the first ever NBA annual conference in the northern part of the country.

And the venue is Kano. So, it is going to be historic.”

The conference, scheduled to take place from June 2 to 5, will address the theme: “Administration of Justice in Nigeria: Challenges and Reforms.”

In attendance at the event was Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by his deputy, Aminu Gwarzo, who officially inaugurated the NBA Kano branch’s Law Week.

Governor Yusuf commended the choice of theme for the Law Week, stating, “The NBA plays a vital role in the administration of the rule of law and equity. As lawyers participating in this Law Week, your dedication is paramount to the progress and development of our country.”
