National Protest: police arrests 54 in Nasarawa state

The Nasarawa state Command of the Nigeria Police have arrested no fewer than 54 protesters for alleged attack on police officers and causing breakdown of law and order

The state Police commissioner, Shehu Umar Nadadah said this in an interview in Lafia that the suspects were arrested for their involvement in the attack on the police and other criminal activities during the nationwide protest

The commissioner explained that 29 persons were apprehended in Lafia, 16 in Karu, six in Keffi, and three in Mararaba-Udege in Nasarawa Local Government Areas.

According to the Command’s boss, the violence exhibited by the protesters in some parts of the state last Thursday August 1st had been brought under control by security agencies.

He gave assurances to residents that the Police and other security agencies would continue to be professional in handling issues from the protest.

The CP who warned troublemakers bent on causing mayhem under any guise to desist or face the full wrath of the law maintained that violent protest was unlawful and would not be tolerated.

The police commissioner therefore, called on members of the public to go about their lawful activities without any fear of intimidation.

He stated that the suspects were currently in police custody for further interrogation, adding that they would be charge to court as soon as investigation were concluded.
