NASS tasks NILDS on Legislative knowledge for Parliamentarians

Leadership of the National Assembly has called on the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies (
NILDS , to provide knowledge for navigation of complexity of legislative practices for new federal lawmakers who constitute over 70 percent of membership of the 10th National Assembly.

The call by leadership of the National Assembly to NILDS , was made by both the President of the Senate , Godswill Akpabio and Speaker of the House of Representatives Tajudeen Abbas at the 10th Matriculation ceremony of Post Graduate Students of NILDS / University of Benin .

Specifically , the President of the Senate in his remarks said the 10th National Assembly shall have as her fulcrum , part of its legislative agenda boost for educational development.

According to him, our growth and development as a nation is proportional to the quality of our educational system just as required legislative knowledge for lawmakers, is proportional to quality of development – driven legislations .

The Speaker on his part said NILDS as a research and capacity building Institute, should quickly come up with knowledge acquisition programmes that would easily enable fresh federal lawnakers to navigate the complexity of legislative practices .

The Director – General of NILDS, Professor Abubakar Sulaiman in his remarks stated that a total of 107 students enrolled for the various courses in the 2022/2023 academic session.

He disclosed that the number of students who enrolled for PG courses at the Institute for the 2022/2023 academic session , is 27 higher than those of 2021/2022 academic session .

He urged the students to exhibit high sense of discipline while running the programme, warning that ” the Post Graduate Programme will not award it’s degree to students who are found wanting in character and in learning “.
