Nasarawa workers will receive new minimum wage in December– Gov. Sule

Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule, Tuesday, announced that workers will receive their salaries in the face of the ongoing strike in the state,.
He said government will begin the payment of the new minimum wage from this December
Governor Sule said he will not invoke the policy of no work, no pay on the state workers, stressing that government and the organised labour are bound to have disagreements sometimes.
The Governor spoke during the commissioning ceremony of the newly remodelled office of the State Deputy Governor in Lafia.
He appealed to the labour unions to return back to work as negotiations continue to go on with a view to reaching amicable agreement.
He added that he is interested in looking into the consequential adjustment issue, arguing that previous administrations were misled to approve higher percentage in spite of the state’s lean resources when compared to its peers in the region in the past.
He promised to continue to prioritise the welfare of the workers of the state, adding that his administration has been working closely with the organised labour for mutual benefits devoid of industrial disharmony.
Speaking, former governor of the state, Umaru Tanko Al-Makura, agreed that the Sule-led administration has set a benchmark for others who succeed him to follow, advising that leaders must be prepared to do more.
Al-Makura, as special guest of honour, called on political office holders to be humble and trustworthy, maintaining that their stewardship will become history to be told at a point.
Former deputy governor of the state, Prof. Onje Gye-Wado said “governance means giving the people what they deserve”, tasking politicians to play politics cautiously for the future.
Commenting, Emir of Lafia/Chairman, Nasarawa State Council of Chiefs, Justice Sidi Bage l retired, lauded the government for being on the right pace of leadership, restating that conducive working atmosphere is essential to attaining success in governance.
In a vote of thanks, the deputy governor, Dr. Emmanuel Akabe appreciated his principal for giving him a work-friendly office to contribute his quota in achieving the mandates of Sule-led administration.
Earlier, in a welcome address, Secretary to the Government of Nasarawa State, Barr. Muhammad Ubandoma Aliyu emphasised that the government is ready to deliver more dividends of democracy to its people, adding that remodelling the office will ensure better work atmosphere to excel in the service of the state.
