Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly Alh Ibrahim Balarabe Abdullahi has commended Governor Abdullahi Sule for upgrading the status of 22 traditional rulers in the State.
The Speaker congratulated the Ohinoyi Ogye of Toto HRH Alh. Umar Muhammed Azaki on his elevation from Second Class to First Class status.
Speaker Balarabe Abdullahi also commended traditional rulers of Asakio, Shabu, Dadare, Gurku and Agwada who were upgraded from Second Class to First Class respectively among others elevated to various status.
During the announcement in Government House Lafia today Governor Abdullahi Sule revealed that the new Aren Eggon will be announced May 5th 2023.
Speaker, Balarabe Abdullahi wished them success in their various status and assured them of the State Assembly’s commitment to give the traditional institution all the needed support to succeed.
The State Government announced the upgrading of the status of 22 traditional rulers across the state saying it is part of the recommendations of the recently constituted Committee on the Creation of Chiefdoms, Districts and Village Areas in the State.
Governor Abdullahi Sule disclosed this while receiving members of the Nasarawa State Traditional Council of Chiefs on a Sallah Homage at the Government House today Tuesday 25th April, 2023.
Governor Sule announced that Six Second Class traditional rulers namely Sangarin Shabu, HRH Alh Mahmood Umar Bwalla, Osakio of Assakio,HRH Mr Osula Inarigu(jp) Sangarin Deddere,HRH Alh. Balarabe S. M. Alhassan, Ohinoyi Ogye of Toto,HRH Alh Umar Muhammed Azaki, Sarkin Gurku HRH Alh. Jibril Waziri and Osu Agwada,HRH Alh Abubakar Sadiq Kaika have all been elevated to First Class status respectively.
Similarly, four Third Class chiefs namely Sarkin Ara, Sarkin Angwan Makama, Sarkin Gudi and Zhe Musha were equally elevated to Second Class status.
The Governor also announced that all 12 Fourth Class Chiefs in the State were automatically elevated to Third Class.
They are Zhe Ashige, Sarkin Kanje, Sangarin Igah, Ozagi of Kwara, Esu Yelwa, Sangarin Tudun Wada, Sarkin Laminga, Osoku of Agaza, Esu Kodape, Sangarin Dari, Sangarin Amba and Sarkin Sabon Gari.
The Governor announced that the Ministry for Local Government, Community Development and Chieftaincy Affairs has been directed to commence the process for the selection of the new Aren Eggon, who will succeed the late Aren Eggon, Dr. Bala Angbazo.
Eggon Traditional Council has 22 kingmakers but at the moment only three are alive to select the new Aren Eggon.
“The law empowers the Governor to use even only one kingmaker to select the new Aren Eggon. We will now use the three kingmakers to select the new Aren Eggon. I don’t even know the kingmakers and won’t even meet with them,and the new Aren Eggon is expected to emerge 5th May, 2023” Gov. Sule has said.
