Nasarawa Council polls ‘ll be free, fair transparent and credible — Gov. Sule

Nasarawa State government on Monday promised to conduct free, fair, transparent and credible local government elections in the state.

The state governor, Abdullahi Sule who gave the assurance at a media parley in Lafia explained that his administration would be open in the conduct of the local councils elections where all the political parties in the state would be given equal opportunity and a level free field.

Sule who spoke through his Senior Special Assistant on Public Affairs, Comrade Peter Ahemba said the council polls would be observed and strictly adhered to as soon as the tenure of the current Chairmen and Councillors of the 13 Local Government Councils come to an end.

According to governor Sule, the Current Chairmen and Councillors who were elected on October 6, 2021 and inaugurated on October 8 for a period of three Years will end on October 6, 2024

He revealed that the Barrister Ayuba Wandai led Independent Electoral Commission NASIEC had planned to conduct a fresh election before now, but regretted the postponement due to litigations that characterized the planned council polls.

“Now that the legal issues has been resolved, the electoral body will soon commence processes of conducting another elections to produce new leadership at the third tier of Government”.

While assuring that his administration will provide the enabling environment for the conduct of a free and fair election, governor Sule said no Political Party willing to participate in the elections will be humiliated.

He used the forum to appraised some of the modest achievements of his administration as the State clocks 28 Years of creation, stating that what he has done within his tenure cut across the 13 Local Government Councils of the State regardless of political patronage.

“My administration has provided projects in all sectors of the economy without bias to locations, political patronage. In no distant time foreign investors will find the State as destination or safe heaven for investments in different areas due to our recent engagements outside the Country.
