The body of Hamisu Danjibga, a prominent Zamfara-based journalist reporting for Voice of Nigeria (VON), has been discovered in a soak away pit behind his residence, three days after he was reported missing.

The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Zamfara State Council, expressed deep sorrow over the grim discovery and issued a statement calling for a thorough investigation into this heinous crime.

The statement, released on Wednesday night, September 20, 2023, urged law enforcement agencies to leave no stone unturned in bringing the perpetrators of this gruesome act to justice.

Ibrahim G. Ahmad, the Secretary of the State Council, stated, “The discovery of his corpse was as a result of unpleasant odor observed by Islamiya Children in the evening of Wednesday, September 20, 2023, who drew the attention of their teachers.

After breaking the soak away, the dead body was confirmed to be that of Danjibga by his family and some neighbors. His funeral rites have since been observed according to Islamic rites.”

Expressing their deep concern over the circumstances of Danjibga’s tragic demise, the statement concluded by saying, “While expressing deep concern over the nature of Danjibga’s demise, we appeal to security agencies to thoroughly investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators of the dastardly act to justice.”
