Minimum Wage Or A Set Back To 2012?
By Jarlath Uche Opara
Since the dawn of Mr Bola Ahmed Tinubu’ Presidency, things have been unassailably moving forward. There hasn’t been any form of stagnation or backward movement.
At every quarter, the economic breathing of the common man is on a palpitating mode.
Their economic or rather financial energy strength functions at a very poor level, suggesting possible financial cardiovascular disease.
The speed is too much, not even the 250 energy level boost Labour is proposing would be able to match with the speed.
Last week my wife went the market with 100k megawatt energy level to chase food condiments. She came back exhausting the “megawatt”, frustrated, without catching up with all that she set out to catch.
The question then is , what would 250k “megawatt” do for a family in one month? Assuming government agrees to this proposal, of course it seems more possible for a carmel to pass through the eye and ear of the needle than the government to agree , what possibly would it buy ?
No wage paid to Nigerian workers would provide a substantial energy level to pursue the Ben Johnson speed of the basic needs of life in Nigeria presently. What would it pursue?
The ever increasing speed of food stuff? Transportation? Electricity? Fuel? House rent? School fees? Medical bills?
This is the right time when the cliché “forward ever backward never” is doing more harm to Nigerians than good.
This forward movement of this administration hasn’t been on the right and positive direction. A forward movement into misery, pains, harsh economic situation etc.
This is the only time when backward movement should be seen as relieving and creating succor.
Instead of this minimum wage “jangolo over” or table tennis game shrouded with mischief on the part of the government, a backward movement to 2012 would be far beneficial.
Nigeria is not broke. Nigeria is not poor. Nigeria is rich in a very stupendous manner, with the capacity to eat , drink and built anything of her choice without borrowing.
Nigeria is like a rich father, so unlucky to have wayward children with a terrible knack for frivolities. She is like a father, well endowed, unfortunate to have heir apparent that lack sanity with terrible sense of priorities.
There is hunger, terrible one in the land. People are sulking and scraping up life in a very inhuman way. No body beauty, structure and aesthetic curves makes the dysfunctional “P” engine of a man to start, ravs and roves. Nigerians are like this man . What they need now is food not infrastructure, gulping ridiculous sum.
What they need is to be alive not the renovation of the V.President house or any other infrastructural development either at a very over bloated sum or having a white elephant composition.
Food, transportation, electricity, shelter etc are basic inelastic demands of the common man. Let the government concentrate on finding ways to crash the prices to an affordable level.
Nigerians “P” engine is knocked. The only thing that would make it roves with sound vroom again is medical attention( affordable basic needs ) Not the parade of curves and aesthetic body structures( infrastructures)
Let the “P” work first, only then would the curves be appreciated. A hungry man is an angry man. And a man whose stomach rumbles
with hunger has no sense of appreciation for creative arts.
Suspend any infrastructural development for one year. Declare state of emergency on food and other basic inelastic needs of the common man, reduce the level of rascal and irresponsible spending going on at every level of Government institutions, Nigerians would be fine and stable within one year.
My one kobo sense !
2012 economic situation is far better than 250k minimum wage. Forget the minimum wage and take us
Instead back to 2012. In this case, backward ever forward never remains a better cliche.
Mr President, your administration runs too fast like a headless Cheetah. Slow down the speed with which basic needs of life run. Nigerians are grumpy, grinding and whining daily, looking for the promised renewed hope, more like a promised renewed hardship .
