LG polls: APC clears 13 Chairmaship seat, SDP, ZLP in supremacy fight over 7 Councillor seat in Nasarawa

Two political parties, the Social Democratic party, SDP and the Zenith Labour Party, ZLP yesterday fought for supremacy over seven councillor out of 147 seat in Nasarawa.

This is even as the ruling All Progressive Congress APC cleared all the 13 Chairmaship seat in the Saturday local government elections to display its political ownership of the state

A break down of the elections showed that the social.

Democratic party won 5 Councillor seat while the Zenith Labour Party clinched two Councillor seat out of the 147 council ward in Nasarawa state.

Recalled that 14 political parties participated in the Saturdays elections adjudged to be fair, free , peaceful and credible devoid of rancour and acrimony.

In some council wards, TMSnews gathered that only APC future in the elections while in some cases, only two or three political parties participated in the local government elections in Nasarawa state.

Announcing the results of the Saturday local councils elections Sunday night, the State Independent Electoral Commission (NASIEC) Chairman, Barrister Ayuba Wandai Usman, said the council polls was to usher in chairmen and councillors of the thirteen local government areas and 147 electoral wards for the next three years..

Barr. Usman announced all the Chairmanship candidates of the All Progressives Congress as winners in the chairmanship contest with results showing that Lafia Chairmanship candidate won with a total score of 217, 573, Doma 70, 545 votes, Keana 35, 094.

Others are Awe with 59, 206, Obi 93, 486, Keffi, 74, 419, Kokona 53, 057, Akwanga 82, 075, Toto 43, 792, Karu 146, 450, Wamba 39, 377, Nasarawa 96, 358 and Nasarawa-Eggon with 94, 497 to win the Chairmanship seat.

According to NASIEC Chairman who described , the exercise as peaceful, appreciated the electorates for their unwavering support stating that their action demonstrate the acceptability of the ruling APC and an entrenchment of democracy in Nasarawa.

“The participation of 14 political parties in the electoral process underscored the confidence of the parties in the election. The use of technology has further made the process seamless and efficient”.

“The success of the election was due to the robust awareness campaign carried out by the commission, the cooperation of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) and the relentless efforts of the security agencies to maintain peace and public order is worthy of note”.

While emphasizing the commissions to upholding the tenet of the electoral process, the NASIEC Chairman said this years council polls was a deviation in so many ways owing to the fact that the commission was ready and prepared to ensuring an acceptable, transparent and credible election.

“The elections reflected the accessibility and cooperation of all stakeholders to promote political participation in the state. The turnout was massive despite a spate of voter apathy”

It would be recalled that zenith Labour Party (ZLP) won two councillorship seats in Doma while the Social Democratic Party (SDP) secured four councillorship seats in Nasarawa-Eggon and one in Keffi local government.
