LG Autonomy: NSHA backs Supreme Court Judgement, says it victory for democracy

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly, has thrown its weight behind the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to 774 Local Government Areas of the Country.

Rt. Hon. Danladi Jatau gave the commendation under the matters of public importance brought by Hon. Musa Ibrahim Abubakar (NNPP- Doma North) the Chairman House Committee on LG and Chieftancy Affairs during the House proceedings today in Lafia.

The Speaker said that with the Supreme Court judgement, there would be speedy development at the grassroots in the country.

The Speaker congratulated the 774 Local Government Areas over the victory, describing the Supreme Court judgement as victory for democracy.

He also appreciated President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Minister of Justice, Lateef Fagbemi for the bold steps they have taken to ensure local government autonomy in the country.

” I am happy with the mover of this motion and Honourable members for your positive contributions on the matter. Nasarawa State House of Assembly align its self with the Supreme Court judgement granting financial autonomy to 774 local government areas in the country.

” We congratulate the 774 Local Government Areas of the country as we also congratulate the chairmen of the Local Government Areas,” he said.

The Speaker expressed hope that the chairmen of the local government areas would do the needful by executing peoples oriented projects

“As this will bring more dividends of democracy to our people at the grassroot and there will be improved standard of living at the grassroots,” he added

Earlier, Hon Musa Ibrahim Abubakar, Chairman, House Committee on Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs while raising the motion, urged his colleagues to support his motion on the need for the House to congratulate the federal government over its victory at the Supreme Court on Local Government autonomy.

Musa, who is a member representing Doma South constituency said that the judgement would promote grassroots development in the country.

On their contributions, Hon Larry Ven- Bawa, Hon Solomon Yakubu Akwashiki, Hon Ibrahim Peter Akwe, , Barr Esson Mairiga, Hon. Daniel Ogah Ogazi and Hon. Jacob Kudu all supported the motion and congratulated Local Government Areas for getting financial autonomy in the country.

They said that with the financial autonomy, Chairmen of Local Government Areas would execute more capital projects and initiate programs that would better the standard of living of their people.
