Landmine Explosion Claims 12 Lives Near Cameroon Border in Borno State

A landmine explosion near the Cameroon border in Borno state, northeast Nigeria, has resulted in the loss of 12 lives and left several individuals injured. The victims were identified as loggers who, on Monday, fell victim to the explosive device while en route to gather firewood.

The incident occurred in an area notorious for Boko Haram jihadist activity.

Reports from two NGOs operating in the region revealed that the flat-bed vehicle, transporting the loggers, rolled over a suspected landmine planted by Boko Haram militants on the highway outside Pulka village.

The explosive device claimed the lives of 12 individuals, and according to one report, “Men suspected to be Boko Haram… planted explosive… and killed 12 people while many were injured along Pulka to Gwoza route.

The second report, echoing the sad incident, stated that seven loggers were injured, with three in critical condition. The critically injured have been evacuated to Maiduguri for urgent medical attention. The incident underscores the persistent security challenges in northeast Nigeria, which has been at the center of a prolonged jihadist insurgency.
