Kano gov signs bill creating second-class emirates into law …appoints Emirs of Karaye, Rano, Reinstates Emir of Gaya

The governor of Kano State Abba Yusuf has signed into law, the Kano State Emirate Council Establishment Bill 2024.

The bill was passed by the state House of Assembly on Tuesday.

The new law is expected to make way for the creation of three second-class emirates in Gaya, Rano and Karaye.

While speaking after signing the bill into law at the government house on Tuesday, Mr Yusuf said, “The state House of Assembly has discharged yet another constitutional duty by passing the new law to pave way for the creation of three second class emirates in the state.

“The creation of these emirates would indeed revive the cultural heritage and development in the areas and by extension, in the state.

“The government believes in the major role of traditional institutions in fostering peace and development,” he said.

Yusuf hailed Speaker Isma’il Falgore for responding to the yearnings and aspirations of the people of the state.

In line with the passage of the Bill, Gov. Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State has approved the appointment of second class Emir of Rano, Alhaji Isa Umar, and Emir of Karaye, Alhaji Muhammadu Karaye, as well as the reinstatement of Emir of Gaya, Alhaji Aliyu Gaya.

According to a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday by the Spokesman of the governor, Mr. Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, , the new heads of emirates are second class emirs with Kano as first class emirate.

“The newly appointed Emirs are:

Alhaji Muhammad Mahraz Karaye, as Emir of Karaye who until his appointment was the District Head of Rogo”

“Alhaji Muhammad Isa Umar, as Emir of Rano (who until his appointment, was the District Head of Bunkure”

“Alhaji Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir Gaya, as Emir of Gaya (who was the emir of the defunct Gaya Emirate”

While congratulating the newly appointed Emirs, Governor Abba K. Yusuf enjoined them to be custodians of culture, peace and unity of the people in their respective emirates.

He charged the emirates to foster peace and development in their respective emirates.
