Kano Court Affirms Suspension of APC National Chairman Ganduje
By Iyojo Ameh
A High Court sitting in Kano state has upheld the suspension of Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, the national chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The ruling, issued by Justice Usman Malam Na’abba on Tuesday, came as a response to an ex parte motion filed by Haladu Gwanjo and Laminu Sani, representing the executive members of the APC Ganduje ward.
The court’s decision not only affirmed Ganduje’s suspension but also prohibited him from presenting himself as a member of the party.
According to the plaintiffs, the suspension was prompted by corruption charges leveled against Ganduje by the government. Subsequently, the court ordered Ganduje to refrain from overseeing the affairs of the National Working Committee (NWC) of the APC.
However, the suspension announcement by the Ganduje ward sparked a counteraction from the State Working Committee (SWC) of the APC in Kano. The SWC announced the suspension of the ward party leaders who had initiated Ganduje’s suspension, accusing them of engaging in anti-party activities and meeting with the ruling opposition.
In response to these developments, the APC has taken a firm stance, denouncing the purported suspension of Ganduje as a “criminal act” orchestrated by individuals not affiliated with the party.
The party alleges that the perpetrators have ties to senior officials of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and are part of a larger scheme of political persecution against Ganduje by the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf.
The NNPP, however, has distanced itself from the crisis within the Kano APC, emphasizing that it is not involved in the ongoing turmoil.
