Just in: Supreme Court fixes Friday for judgement in Nasarawa guber
By David Okpashi
The Supreme Court has fixed Friday, January 19th to deliver judgement in the appeal filed by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) 2023 gubernatorial election, David Ombugadu challenging the reinstatement of Governor Abdullahi Sule by the court of appeal.
Citypost confirmed in the state thursday that the apex court will deliver its judgement tomorrow.
It would be recalled that the Supreme Court had on Tuesday day reserved judgement in the appeal field by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governorship Candidate, Dr David Ombugadu, challenging results of the 18th March, 2023 governorship election in Nasarawa State which declared Abdullahi Sule winner of the Governorship election in the state.
The five-man panel led by Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, reserved the judgement after taking arguments from lawyers involved in the matter on Tuesday, January 16, 2024.
The Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) through its Counsel, Kanu Agabi (SAN) had appealed to the apex court to set aside the November 23, 2023, judgement of the Court of Appeal which upheld Sule as the duly elected governor.
Agabi argued that the October 2, 2023, judgement of the Nasarawa State Governorship Election Petitions Tribunal granted in favour of PDP and Ombugadu be restored.
He stated that the Court of Appeal unjustly nullified the tribunal’s judgement and declared Sule as the winner of the March 18 gubernatorial election.
