Just in: Police burst kidnappers’ den, arrests 109 illegal miners in Nasarawa

LAFIA —FOLLOWING the determination by the Commissioner of Police, Musa Shehu Nadada to rid Nasarawa state of criminals and criminality, the Command’s anti kidnapping squared Tuesday raided a suspected kidnappers den located in Nasarawa Eggon and arrested 109 illegal miners in different locations in the area.
The operation which was carried out in collaboration with the Vigilante Group of Nasarawa Eggon was in compliance with the directive of the Commissioner of Police, CP Umar Shehu Nadada towards reducing the spate of criminal activities in Nasarawa state
It would be recalled that Nadada had directed the Command’s Anti-kidnapping unit in collaboration with the Vigilante group of Nasarawa Eggon LGA to embark on a massive raid of kidnappers’ den located at Alogani mountains, a hide out of the kidnappers terrorizing the residents of the state.
The operation stretches from Mada station to Wakama, a mountainous area where the criminals (kidnappers), use as a hideout to keep their victims until a ransom is paid.
According to the statement issued and made available to Journalists in Lafia, the spokesman of the command, DSP Ranham Nansel, during the search by the combined team of the operatives, the kidnappers had deserted all the camps before the arrival of the operatives.
He said 109 persons suspected to be illegal miners were arrested at different locations on the mountain carrying out illegal mining of solid minerals such as Topaz, Tin, and Aquamarine. A den gun, cutlasses, knives illegally mined solid minerals, etc were recovered from the suspects as exhibit.
“The suspected miners have been profiled and investigation is ongoing. Commissioner of Police has ordered continuous clampdown on criminal hideouts in the state”. The PPRO declared
According to Nansel, CP Nadada has not only warned all criminals to turn a new leaf but promised to ensure that Nasarawa state is made save for the residents and the investors alike.
